Unveiled in 2023, the Daniel Weller series embarks on an experimental journey to explore the influence of diverse wheat strains on its distinguished bourbons. This collection draws inspiration from and pays homage to Daniel Weller, a trailblazer in the Weller family. Serving as a captivating extension of the original wheated bourbon brand, it highlights Buffalo Trace Distillery's unwavering commitment to innovation while honoring an American whiskey pioneer – Daniel Weller, the grandfather of William Larue Weller. Daniel passed down the family's distilling traditions, setting the stage for subsequent generations of whiskey enthusiasts.
The inaugural release features Emmer wheat, an ancient Egyptian grain seldom encountered in contemporary stills. Aged for nearly 12 years and bottled at 94 proof, the aroma is fresh and nutty, revealing notes of orange zest, hazelnut, cinnamon, and caramel. The palate offers a harmonious blend of robust oak, sweet honey, and orchard fruits, concluding with a multifaceted oak-centric finish enriched by nuances of baking spice and leather.
