A very special extra añejo Tequila, previously reserved only for the friends and family of Don Felipe and Carlos Camarena, Tapatio Excelencia Gran Reserva is aged for about four years in new white American oak barrels that have undergone a heavy char, known as the "alligator burn." This intense charring absorbs impurities, resulting in a smoother, mellower tequila. Produced in tiny batches, Excelencia Gran Reserva is considered one of the world’s finest sipping spirits.
Generations of expertise and fierce family pride make Tapatio a standout tequila. It is the flagship brand of the renowned La Alteña Distillery, founded in Jalisco, Mexico, in 1937 by Don Felipe Camarena. Today, Tapatio remains under the ownership of the Camarena family, with Don Felipe's grandson Carlos continuing the legacy as master distiller. Tapatio is crafted through an artisanal process and is double distilled to as close to bottling strength as possible, preserving the tequila's natural character. Thanks to the Camarenas' respect for tradition and meticulous attention to detail, each tequila in the range expresses the authentic flavors of the agave plant.
